Eight years ago, I made the unexpected decision to step away from my corporate team, and full-time employment. My daughter was born early, and I needed to be with my home team to ensure her success. At the time, I believed this to be a short-lived hiatus.

I then began formulating a plan to freelance. Balancing life with a tiny newborn, while honing my skills learning new software, and making steps to market myself, was daunting during those early months. Fortunately, tiny baby snuggles helped to quell those thoughts.

Today, I wholeheartedly recognize the silver lining that bloomed from my choice. Because of that decision, I was fortunate to be all-in with helping my mother through 5 plus years of cancer treatments and surgeries. I’m sure many of you can relate to parts of this. Had I not pulled back from my corporate role at the time, it would have been a struggle to achieve such a positive outcome with both my mother and daughter.

Much of my freelance success has been due to many of my previous employers, co-workers, and friends reaching out to me with creative projects to collaborate with them on. This support has been truly amazing, and so very appreciated.
